Competitive Cheerleading - A Good Topic For Research PapersWhen I was a freshman in college, I did a major project on competitive cheerleading. This is the group of cheerleaders that appear in most movies and television shows, including all of the big high school team sports. As you may know, cheerleading is one of the few sports in high school that many teenagers participate in. It is the most popular spectator sport and one of the fastest growing sports in the United States.The research that I did on competitive cheerleading was based on dozens of interviews with current and former competitive cheerleaders. Some of them are very successful and top of their class in school, while others are struggling to make ends meet and still others are just out of high school and need extra money. I found it interesting how the competitive cheerleader describes their life as part of the competitive cheerleading scene.For example, I interviewed a cheerleader who described her life during the comp etitive cheerleading season. She worked at several different jobs during the summer between competitive cheerleading seasons so she could spend some time with her girlfriends. Then she would come home, meet up with her friends and cheer squad for a couple of hours before bedtime.It was from this description that I began to understand the concept of competitive cheerleading. The competitive cheerleader spends two to three hours a day, seven days a week, six months of the year working at various different jobs in the hopes of earning enough money to support herself and her friends and family.What I didn't realize at the time is that the work that the competitive cheerleader was doing during this time was having a significant impact on her personal lifestyle. Yes, her friends and family were her main focus, but she was also dealing with the money issues. Then when the competitive cheerleading season ended, the competitive cheerleader was back to being just another college student.It is this focus on money, spending habits, and relationships that make competitive cheerleading such a good topic for a research paper. I also learned that competitive cheerleading players spend hours a day studying their routines and techniques.One of the problems with competitive cheerleading is that if you want to be the best that you can be in this sport, you have to practice every day. This is where a good research paper can come in handy. Doing a good amount of research on the practices and routines of the various cheerleading teams that compete in the tournaments will help you understand exactly what the game is like.Competitive cheerleading is a very competitive sport, but it is a wonderful outlet for social interaction and study. This is why it is such a good topic for a research paper.
